Frequently asked questions

Everything we get asked most often about joining Longhorn Racing.

Members of each team get the chance to drive, and each team hosts rounds of driver tryouts to select the most dedicated and skilled drivers.

The baseline commitment of LHR is mandatory workdays and weekly system meetings. However, members who spend additional time on LHR outside of mandatory times often learn more and have a better experience.

Yes! We value an applicant's motivation and desire to learn, not just technical skill.

Nope! We value an applicant's drive to learn and grow over technical experience. Lots of our members come into LHR with no technical experience and leave LHR as talented engineers.

It depends. Each system/team's interview questions vary and are typically a mix of technical questions and questions to see if an applicant is a good fit for the system.

Tell us what took up most of your time in high school, sports/performing arts/other extracurriculars are important to us and show that you're an applicant dedicated to what you do.

We look for dedication, interest in the system/team the applicant is applying to, and drive to learn.

Each applicant will be admitted into 1 team and 1 system. Applicants are eligible for 1 interview per team and 1 trial workday per team. At the end of the application cycle, applicants pick 1 system to join.

Absolutely! We review all applications regardless of grade level.

Nope! Attendance at only one info session is required. If you wish to apply to ONLY operations systems (public relations, corporate relations, and treasury) you may attend the Operations Info session instead of Info Session 1 or 2

Not at all, we require attendance at at least ONE open garage, but not for the entire time. Feel free to stop by when you are available and meet current LHR members.

If you plan on switching majors, please let us know in your application (in the "major" section). Plenty of LHR members have switched majors.

Yes! While you may be recruited for a specific strength like photography, you are not limited to only that area.

Adding a portfolio of previous works is a great way to show your experience and your unique creative vision!

Yes, anyone is welcome to apply to Operations regardless of their major.

While preferred, a background in creative media isn't a requirement. However, it would be helpful to submit a portfolio of any works to help inform our decisions.
